Changes to Test of Competence OSCEs from 14th June 2021

The following information references our local overseas nurse NMC competency test centre at the University of Northampton:

NEW SCENARIOS AND SKILLS WILL BE INTRODUCED TO THE CURRENT TEST OF COMPETENCE OSCES FROM JUNE 14TH 2021

As part of the ongoing test of competence, some updates have been made to the current Part 2 Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE): new scenarios and skills will be introduced from Monday 14th June 2021. 

The following new materials will be introduced to the current tests from the 14th June 2021 and we have suggested some resources that could be used for assessment:

 

Please note that the pressure ulcer assessment marking criteria does not follow the evidence set out in the Royal Marsden.

Timings for new skills stations starting June 14th

  • The timings for the 3 new OSCE skills stations are as follows:
  • Insertion of fine-bore nasogastric tube – 8 mins
  • Intravenous flush and VIP assessment – 8 mins
  • Pressure area assessment – 8 mins
  • We are introducing these from 14th June for the current OSCE.
  • Please note candidates will be given 8 minutes to complete each of these stations.
